Fatal crash closes NB U.S. 131 before rush hour

WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -- Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a Kent County Road Commission truck that closed U.S. 131 just before morning rush hour.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday on the northbound side of the freeway at the 28th Street overpass.

Police say a car, driven by a 32-year-old man from Florida, rear-ended a trailer being towed by a road commission truck. The driver, and lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Road commission employees were working in the area, but none were injured.

The crash forced police to close the freeway's northbound lanes at 36th Street for more than two hours.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The crash remains under investigation by MSP.

A few hours later, just after 7 a.m., another multiple vehicle accident occurred on NB 131 at Burton St. Both northbound lanes were shut down while emergency crews clear the scene. Early reports indicate there were at least three vehicles involved with unknown injuries at this time.

This is a developing story.
