WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -- General Motors announced Monday morning it will invest $119 million in tools and equipment at its Grand Rapids Operations plant on Burton Street SW in Wyoming, creating 300 future jobs.

The plant currently has about 500 employees on three shifts and produces engine components used in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles.

The investment is part of GM's $5.4 billion in investments in U.S. facilities the company announced April 30. The 300 jobs represents nearly half of 650 planned employee additions within GM.

"This investment in the future recognizes the excellent workforce at Grand Rapids Operations" GM North America Manufacturing Manager Scott Whybrew said in a statement. "It also demonstrates GM's collaboration with our UAW partners to innovate and bring tangible benefits to our customers."

The company also plans on giving $20,000 in grants to four different non-profits in Grand Rapids.
