Rogers High School annual Literacy Fair

From: http://www.wyoming.k12.mi.us

The staff members at Rogers High School are busy planning our second annual literacy event. This year’s Literacy Fair will be on Thursday, October 28 from 6:00PM to 7:30PM. The purpose of this fair is to highlight what each content area is doing to promote a love of reading in our students and to provide parents with specific ways in which they can assist our efforts at home. We will have door prizes, goodies to take home, and incentives to come to Parent-Teacher Conferences in November. The format is open house, so if you cannot stay the whole time or get there by 6:00PM, just arrive when you can and stay as long as you can. If you have any questions or would like to donate a door prize for the event, please let me know. Thank you for your continued support of Rogers High School and its students.

Walk 4 Hearing in West Michigan raises awareness

Wyoming, Mich. (WZZM) -  Approximately 17% of American adults have some degree of hearing loss.

Living with significant hearing loss can not only be frustrating but costly.

Sunday afternoon the Michigan Division of the Hearing Loss Association of America held its annual Walk 4 Hearing to help offset some of those costs. The 5K walk at Metro Health raised more than $21,000 dollars.

The money will go to help those like Samantha Wilson, a high school student with significant hearing loss. Even though she wears a cochlear implant she still feels like she misses out on some things, "In a high school environment everything is very loud in the hallways so you can't hear everything and it makes it hard to talk with you're friends."

The Hearing Loss Association offers programs and services to assist those in West Michigan with hearing loss.
