Oakdale Park CRC Celebrates 125 Years this Weekend

Leaders and parishioners from Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church, a culturally-diverse place of worship in Grand Rapids, will celebrate the 125th Anniversary of their church with a service led by Senior Pastor Emmett Harrison. The Church service is Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 10:30am followed by a celebration dinner at 12:30pm.

This celebration dinner is open to all people and is free to attend. It will be catered by the LINC Up Soul Food Café and held at the church, located at 961 Temple SE in Grand Rapids, MI 49507. Oakdale’s commitment to diversity and inclusion has helped the congregation grow its’ ministries, community outreach and service programs. The church also helps other outside organizations by providing use of its facilities.

Oakdale Park CRC was founded in 1890 and has more than 400 parishioners and currently is led by Senior Pastor Emmett Harrison.

Marge’s Donut Den in Wyoming, MI will celebrate 40 years in business on Saturday, June 20, 2015. The well-known bakery is located at 1751  28th St. SW.

Marge’s is open 365 days a year but she does have shorter hours on Saturday and Sunday, only open until 4:00pm instead of 6:00pm.

Kentwood High School to host Rainbow Run

The Falcon Rainbow Run is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2015 at East Kentwood High School, 6230 Kalamazoo Ave SE in Kentwood, MI 49508. Registration at 2:00pm, Race Time 3:00pm.

Start this 5K in White and end in Color. We are promoting unity within the community with a noncompetitive, fun event anyone of any age can enjoy.

Registration Fees:

$30 for Adults

$25 for Firemen/Police/Military

$25 for East Kentwood Athletes

$20 for Kids (12 & under)

A separate registration form must be filled out for each participant.

Free Healthy Michigan Renewal/Enrollment Assistance

Free Healthy Michigan Renewal/Enrollment Assistance

Cherry Health will host a free event to educate, answer questions and help community members enroll and renew their Healthy Michigan health insurance.  The event will take place on Thursday, May 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kent District Library – Wyoming Branch, 3350 Michael Avenue, Wyoming.

 

Enrollment staff will be present to provide information about Healthy Michigan and how to sign up for health insurance or renew current insurance.  Staff will also be available to assist with Special Enrollment Period or SEP, for the Health Insurance Marketplace, for those who qualify.

 

Additionally, computers will be available for community members to use to enroll or renew their Healthy Michigan coverage.  Certified Application Counselors will assist with the enrollment process as needed.  Spanish assistance will also be available.

Kentwood Community Church to Sponsor Wyoming Summer Concerts

The Wyoming Community Enrichment Commission (WCEC) announced today that Kentwood Community Church (KCC) has agreed to an exclusive Title Sponsorship agreement for the 2015 Concerts in the Park Series. In recognition of their support, the series will be renamed to "Concerts in the Park, presented by Kentwood Community Church" for the 2015 season.

Kentwood Community Church is the first full-season sponsor for the Concerts in the Park series.  In addition to renaming the series, the church will also provide activities and entertainment during all 11 concerts scheduled for this year.  Each concert night will have various events, such as family games, kids inflatable equipment, face painting, temporary tattoos, and lots of giveaways, all at no charge.  Follow the series on Facebook (Facebook.com/WyomingCEC) to get up-to-date information on events for each concert night.

My Town: Kent ISD superintendent candidate withdraws application

KENT COUNTY, Mich.—The Kent Intermediate School District will continue screening its lone finalist for superintendent.

Monday, West Ottawa Schools Superintendent Tom Martin announced he is withdrawing his application for the job.  Martin was one of two finalists for the position with Kent ISD. 

In a statement released to WZZM 13 Monday, Martin said, “After talking with West Ottawa’s board president who urged me to stay and hearing the same support through numerous emails, notes and phone calls, I’ve decided to withdraw from the Kent ISD search. We have come so far in this district, and with the continued support of staff and community, we can and will build on that improvement for all of our students. College, career and life ready is a vision that’s becoming a reality, and I look forward to continue being a part of that success.”

My Town: Marco's Pizza offers free pizza for canned spinach March 26

WYOMING, Mich.—Clear out your cupboard, help hungry families and get a free pizza in return during National Spinach Day.

On Thursday, March 26, each patron who drops off a can of spinach at Marco’s Pizza can pick up a free medium Grilled Chicken Florentine pizza, complete with fresh baby spinach.  Marco’s Pizza will send all of the canned spinach donations to local food banks.  The offer is good for carry-out and dine-in orders at all Marco’s Pizza locations, including Spring Lake, Jenison and Wyoming.

“This was a successful community event for us last year and it’s a great way to share the love of spinach”, said Cathy Hull, chief marketing officer at Marco’s Pizza. “Together, we can support our communities by helping stock the shelves of our local food banks, while delighting our customers with the delicious flavor of our Grilled Chicken Florentine pizza.”
