St. John Vianney brings in 210 toys for 'School Spirit Challenge'

WYOMING, Mich. - West Michigan schools have spent time collecting toys for our annual "Toys for Tots" campaign.

The friendly competition came to a close Friday during our "School Spirit Challenge" on the morning news.

Wyoming Teen Council Members Take on Local Organization Roles

Wyoming, MI - The Wyoming Community Foundation and Wyoming Community Youth Coalition are utilizing the Wyoming Parks and Recreation Department Teen Council members to fill voids in their operations.

The Wyoming Community Foundation struggled in recent years to find area teens to sit on their Youth Advisory Committee.  The Youth Advisory Committee typically defines youth-centered needs in the community and then reviews grant applications to determine how best to disperse their available funding.  Last year, the Wyoming Parks and Recreation Department’s Teen Council developed a committee of members to serve in this role and distributed over $3,000 in funding to area organizations.  This year, it is anticipated that the Teen Council committee will have nearly $5,000 to distribute.

Wyoming Celebrates the Holidays with Annual Tree Lighting

Wyoming, MI, Monday, Nov. 29 – The City of Wyoming and The Salvation Army are hosting their annual Christmas tree lighting event on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. for the community. The tree lighting will take place behind City Hall, located at 1155 28th Street SW.

Wyoming community members are invited to participate in the festivities, which will include: holiday music provided by the Salvation Brass Band, complementary cookies and hot chocolate and an opportunity to visit with Santa Clause. There is no charge to attend the event.

“We are excited to partner with The Salvation Army on this fun, family event once again,” said Barbara VanDuren, deputy city manager. “It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the holidays as a community, and has been a Wyoming tradition for over 20 years.
