Wyoming Public Schools - A Message from our Superintendent | Community Spirit
Dear Wyoming Public School Parents and Community Families,
As this school year begins, I want to thank you for the support I have received as I completed my first year as Superintendent. It was both exciting and challenging, but with your support and the great staff and students we have, it was very rewarding. I have learned a great deal and most importantly, understand there is room to improve not only with my performance, but our district as a whole. Producing high academic achievement and offering quality opportunities in a safe and nurturing environment will be our focus at all times.
Looking forward to this year, there will be significant changes and challenges for all of us– students, staff members and the community as a whole. Due to the continued financial strain on our operating budget, we were facing the possibility of having to reduce opportunities for students. To keep that from happening, the School Board voted to consolidate our three secondary buildings, Newhall Middle School (grades 7-8), Rogers High School (grades 9-12), and Wyoming Park High School grades (9-12) into two sites: Wyoming High School (grades 10-12) located at the former RHS site and Wyoming Junior High (grades 7-9) located at the former WPHS building. The significant savings from this allows us to keep our current programming and class sizes, as well as increase opportunities for students in academics, applied arts, and athletics. This will create the opportunity to consider other enhancements for our students as they present themselves.
Along with the consolidation changes, our students have spoken and chosen a new districtwide mascot, school fight song, and school colors. The new mascot is the Wyoming Wolves and the new colors are deep purple and black with an accent color of silver. I am very pleased with the level of involvement from the students in this process. Although moving on to new possibilities, we will also continue to honor the great past of our former two high schools.
This is an exciting time and opportunity for all of us. We hope that you will continue to be or become involved with our students and staff – we need your support and help to assure a smooth transition. As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions by calling me at 530-7531, emailing me at email@example.com, or posting a question on our district website at www.wyomingps.org . We need to build the future of our district together and we want you to be part of it, in whatever manner you can. Whether you currently have a child in the district does not matter; you are an important part of our Wyoming Public School community. Thank you for trusting WPS with our most important possession – our children and their education.
Dr. Thomas G. Reeder, Superintendent
