KENT COUNTY, Mich.—If you’re looking for a clean, safe place to dine out this weekend, the Kent County Health Department has some suggestions- 471 of them, actually.

The KCHD recently announced the winners of its 2nd annual Food Safety Awards.  This year’s 471 winners were selected from more than 1700 licensed facilities that were inspected through 2013.    To qualify, each establishment had to meet the following criteria:

MUSKEGON, Mich.—For the second year in a row, Carmichael Heating & Air Conditioning, a West Michigan-based heating and cooling business, was recognized at the Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems annual dealer meeting with a Tier 1 Medal of Excellence (MOE) Award.

The MOE award is a business enrichment program specifically designed to recognize Bryant dealers like Carmichael Heating & Air Conditioning  that do “whatever it takes” to improve their business.  The decision to honor a Bryant dealer with the MOE distinction is based on their sales growth, product mix, and customer satisfaction.  Additional criteria such as their dealer program utilization and the company’s self-assessment are also taken into consideration.

My Town: Wyoming CEO among finalists for Ernst and Young award

WYOMING, Mich.—The CEO of Grand Rapids Plastics, based in Wyoming is  a finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Arthur J. Bott Sr. was selected from a group of more than 50 nominations.  The judges’ based their decisions on each finalist’s innovation success, financial performance and personal commitment to business and communities.

The award winners will be announced at a special gala event on June 5 at the MGM Grand Detroit.  This is the 28th year for the award program, which now includes more than 145 cities in more than 60 countries worldwide.

(Kent County Administration) – Businesses and residents in Kent County are in good hands fiscally. Kent County remains financially strong, according to rating agencies Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and Moody’s Investors Service. Both agencies affirmed the long-term Triple-A credit ratings– the highest possible – for the County. This represents the 16th consecutive year that Kent County has held the long-term Triple-A ratings from both agencies. Both S&P and Moody’s also affirmed the highest short-term credit ratings available for the County. S&P noted that Kent County has a history of strong financial management and commitment to meeting financialobligations. My Town Wyoming: Construction underway on new restaurant

WYOMING, Mich.—Construction is underway on a new restaurant expected to create up to 60 jobs in Wyoming.

The new McDonald’s will be located at 1115 Chicago Drive SW.  Mayor Jack Poll, joined other city and business leaders to help owner Tony Castillo break ground on the work on March 31.  Castillo owns three other McDonald’s restaurants in Holland, and was recently named the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Hispanic Business Person of the Year.

The new restaurant will feature a the latest technology and a contemporary design  including two drive-through windows to provide faster food service.  The new McDonald’s is expected to open this summer.

My Town Wyoming: Wyoming Concerts in the Park lineup unveiled

WYOMING, Mich.—Although there is snow on the ground, the Wyoming Community Enrichment Commission is already set for a summertime tradition.

The Wyoming Concerts in the Park series will return to Lamar Park June 3 at 6:30 p.m.  The series kicks off with a special Kids Night concert featuring “Zumbatomic” followed by the Grand Rapids First Church Youth Choir.  Kid-friendly activities are also scheduled.
