My Town Wyoming: Steelcase workers stitch for a cause

WYOMING, Mich.— While many people are working their mouths on their lunch break, a group of Steelcase employees is furiously working its knitting needles.

Every week for 10 years now, the group of men and women have met during lunch time on Thursdays to knit hats to donate.  Their wooly work has graced the heads of patients at the Mercy Health Lacks Cancer Center and students at Brookside and other area elementary schools.   Their latest donation of more than 100 hats went to children in need at Godfrey Lee Elementary School.

After hearing WZZM 13’s report about the Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign, the group identified its next mission.  In January, they will knit red hats for infants with congenital heart defects, helping Mended Little Hearts of West Michigan reach its goal of 1,000 hats by Jan. 21.
