WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -- Citing the need to focus on more profitable stores, the parent company of AJ Wright says it will close its Wyoming location and 70 others around the U.S. by the middle of February.

An employee called the WZZM 13 Information Center Friday night, saying he and other workers learned today of the company's plans to close the Rogers Plaza location on February 8.

TJX Companies, which also own the TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods stories, want to consolidate their retail operations.  About 90 AJ Wright stores in the U.S. will be converted into TX Maxx locations.  More than 70 AJ Wright stores in areas with existing TJ Maxx and Marshalls locations will be shut down.

About 4,400 employees nationwide are expected to lose their jobs.  The company plans to offered the workers severance packages and other forms of assistance.
