Byron Township man facing charges after police standoff

WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Byron Township man is facing several charges after a stand-off with police from Wyoming and Kent County.

Robert Blodgett, 61, appeared in 62nd District Court in Wyoming on Monday.  He is charged with domestic violence, extortion, and resisting-obstructing a police officer.

On the morning of January 27, the Wyoming Police tactical unit went to a home near 56th St. and Gezon Pkwy., searching for Blodgett, who was wanted on a domestic violence warrant.

When officers did not find Blodgett at the Wyoming address, they asked the Kent County Sheriff's Department for assistance in searching for the man at his Byron Township home.

When officers and deputies arrived Blodgett refused to leave his home, but after six hours of negotiations, he surrendered to police.

Blodgett is being held in the Kent County Jail on a $250,000 bond.  His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9.
